Life
I am blessed to be living in County Sligo which is one of most beautiful places in Ireland and the local landscape has been a major source of inspiration in my development as both a photographer and as a person over the last ten years. County Sligo also inspired the great poet WB Yeats who called this place "The Land of Heart's Desire" and we can clearly see why
Studying the landscape and it's interaction with the light is fascinating and takes you to a place that is far away from the humdrum of daily life. Nature is inspirational and being close to it on a daily basis provides the spiritual nourishment for more creative thinking about who we are and our purpose in life
The landscape in Ireland reveals signs of civilisation dating back about 6000 years and it has a permanent sense of place and time which reminds one that a human life is only a fleeting moment and that time is something we should all make the most of
Landscape Photography is the main creative passion from which this site sprang and it was all created from nothing using free tools and determination. I have since learned that photography can now be almost anything we want it to be. It can be used to record snapshots of ordinary life or it can be used to create works of art which are surreal and are capable of speaking to our psyche on a more subconscious level
The main theme of the site is landscape photography but it also contains illustrated articles and resources that will be of interest to other types of photographers and anyone who is interested in the designing and building of web sites. Digital photography plays a huge role in making the web a more visual place and for this reason I write about various tools and techniques and how they can be used by photographers and artists to promote their work I find that having solid web skills are a bonus in life and that learning them was a natural progression from straight photography
Photography and Digital Art can be a therapeutic hobby for anyone or they can be practiced as a fine art when you realise how much scope there is for experimentation with modern equipment, printing papers and inks
This is just one reason why the site is also about being creative with limited resources. It promotes self education and personal discovery using digital technologies for recreation, learning, personal development and even business
